Rockwall Veterinary Clinic says dog joint pain is a common issue for canine family and large breed of dogs tend to suffer more from this issue. One major cause for this joint pain is arthritis that is similar to humans; dog arthritis can become worse with age. However, not all the joint pain issues in dogs are due to arthritis. Week bones and poor immunity to cold climate also can cause this hip pain. Seeking the help from a medical practitioner is very important when your dog faces such a problem but you can follow these simple steps to provide a lot of relief to your canine friend.

Special Bed Solutions – You can make or purchase a bed custom made for your dog that will help to alleviate joint pain and pressure. You can purchase these types of beds locally or you can order them online and have it custom made for your dog’s size and needs.

Avoid Tiled/Wooden Floors – Wooden and Tiled floors are very smooth and pooches that suffer this pain will find it difficult to walk around on such flooring. Move your dog to a place with rough flooring or spread carpet to make your dog’s walks smoother.

Dog Ramps – These are a great way to help reduce stress on your dog’s joints as opposed to climbing stairs or jumping into your vehicle. You need to make sure that your dog does not jump up on his front legs very often.

Provide Adequate Exercise – Many people assume that dogs with joint pain can’t do exercise which is not true. Make sure that your dog gets sufficient time to walk each day but split your exercise routine to several smaller ones so that your dog won’t get exhausted. Rather than letting your dog to chase a ball, it is better to take him/her for short walks.

Pay Attention to Diet — One of the first areas to concentrate on is your dog’s diet. Providing a proper diet can go a long way to relieving joint pain. You dog’s diet should include vitamins and minerals that will ensure optimum health. Also, do not allow your dog to over eat.

Look into Pet Massage — When done in a gentle manner, massaging your dog’s joints can really help ease your pet’s pain. While this is not a quick fix, massaging your dog’s joints on a regular basis will show long-term results.

Show Patience — Since joint pain will most certainly slow your pet down, make sure to give him extra time to come to you or walk. Be kind and patient with your animal. After all, your pet cannot help this condition. Remember that your friend may not be able to do things he or she once did, so keep this in mind when trying to take your dog out.

By following these easy tips, you can not only help to relieve your dog’s pain, but build a great relationship with your best friend in the process. It is important to note that medication should not be given to a dog without first consulting your veterinarian.
