“I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the vet that we were seeing in Mesquite was not as attentive, nor friendly enough to ask questions about our pet. We care and love our Westie as most owners do. We only want the best care for her.

Rockwall Pet Hospital says weather you are in the need for daily dog walking or will be traveling to Cairo for a month you need to foster a calm and loving atmosphere for your pet while you are away. Gaining the trust of a pet is a very rewarding aspect of being a pet sitter and is the ultimate goal. Trust can and will be developed in the absence of stress and in the presence of loving care.

When you pick a pet sitting service there are five steps you can take to help ensure that you create a relaxed and loving environment for your pet:

1. Introduce Your Pet

You, the pet’s owner, need to facilitate the introduction of your pet to the pet sitter. Know that it is all right to take as long, or as many times as you need to be comfortable with your decision. Ultimately, what your dog senses from you will determine failure or success. If he senses any discomfort, it will be difficult to create a bond. A positive interaction, however, will help immensely in creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for your pet. Also, this is a great time to leave an article of the pet sitter’s clothing for the pet to become more familiar with their scent.

2. Trust Your Instincts

Now is the time to use your intuition and listen to your heart as well as your head. If something just doesn’t seem right or feels odd to you or your pet – address it immediately. You want to be at ease with your decision. Discuss your feelings and analyze the answers. You don’t want to be far from home worried needlessly about your pet.

2nd Meeting

It is important for trust to be established between the pet and pet sitter. Have a second meeting if necessary. This time you should be less involved. You want there to be a transfer of trust to the pet sitter. Observe and get answers to your questions. It’s time to decide. If you feel right, pick your pet sitter. If not, start the process over again until you like what you see.

Scheduling

Structure allows a dog to be comfortable and trusting. If a pet knows what to expect, they feel safe and secure. Dogs are instinctively habitual. Staying on schedule, keeping the emotional state and activity level consistent and your pet and pet sitter will get along well, achieving your goals of a comfortable and secure dog.

5. Relax

Relax and know you’ve done the right thing! Enjoy your vacation!
